Interpromotional Angle BeginsBy: Steve McFaddenwebmaster@wrestlingcolumns2000.comThere are two parts to this column: The News Story Itself, and My Thoughts on the Angle. This is part two of two.8:00 PM ET. TNT. The wrestling world as we know it changed forever. On the screen of Nitro was Vincent K. McMahon. He was in the heel mode, as usual, saying that he held WCW in the palm of his hands. Out came Ric Flair, who will more than likely play the babyface in all of this. He told Vince that there is no way anyone can hold the future of guys like Ric Flair, Sting, and Booker T in the palm of their own hands. This meant something. This meant that Vince was starting a WCW vs. WWF war, and it was going to involve Vince as the heel who wants to try to run WCW into the ground and bury it, because WCW tried for years to destroy Vince, and anyone who tries to do that will soon be buried. The funniest thing of the night occured when Regal slammed WCW on Nitro, then Tony countered by saying: ÒSteve Regal, weÕve had to do a lot of crazy things over the years, including trying to get your ass over on TVÓ... funny stuff from the usual idiotic Fat Tony.9:48 PM ET. TNT and TNN. For the first(and quite possibly only) time in the history of wrestling, the same exact thing aired on Nitro and RAW, and at the same exact time. Vince McMahon had come out to do an interview addressing his purchase of WCW. At first, he appeared to be a babyface, getting the WWF fans on his side, pointing out how WCW tried to defeat the WWF, but as always, Vince came out on top. Then, after letting the crowd decide which wrestlers he should keep in the new WCW, Vince snapped and went into the ultra heel mode he is so used to. He told the fans that he wish he was in that redneck riveira Nitro was being held in (also home to one of the best lines of the night: ÒHow fitting is it that the final Nitro ever is being held in a beer hall?Ó), so he can line up all those WCW ÒstarsÓ, look into their faces, and say ÒYOUÕRE FIRED!!ÓBut the best was yet to come. He snapped and started to tell the fans to shut up, and how he was going to bury WCW, just like he buried them the last two years in the ratings. He told the fans to respect him when suddenly ÒNo Chance in HellÓ played! And you know what that means! ShaneÕs video played, to a huge pop from the crowd. But he didnÕt come out.. well not on RAW anyways. The Titantron showed Shane, but he was in Panama Beach City, Florida, home of the final Nitro ever shown on TNT!He went on to tell Vince that a McMahon had finalized the deal, but it wasnÕt Vince.. the name on the contract read SHANE MCMAHON! Vince did a brilliant acting job, looking shocked, as Shane revels in the fact he bought WCW, and said ÒVince, WCW kicked your ass in the past, and weÕll do it again!ÓThis is not the way I would have gone with this angle, but it still leads to Wrestlemania in a way. Have Shane lose the match and go to WCW, where he could possibly appoint Mick Foley as comissioner. Have Foley and Shane try to get WCW back on top, while Vince tries to keep the WWF on top. There is a problem here though. They are making WCW the babyfaces, and WWF the heels. WhatÕs up with that? Are they trying to get more fans of WCW and less for WWF? What good could that possibly accomplish? It would not accomplish much of anything for Vince, unless he is willing to sacrifice his company for the company he tried to defeat.LetÕs see how he handles this one.
